If you’re encountering difficulties in designing a (entryway?) foyer within your open living room, be assured that you are not alone. Many homeowners encounter the task of establishing a warm and inviting entrance in an open living space. However, with a touch of creativity and strategic design decisions, you can effortlessly convert your open living room into a functional and stylish foyer.
To commence, let us explain in more detail the notion of a living room with a foyer. Essentially, it designates an entryway or hallway that commonly lies between the principal door of a residence and the living area. Its function is to furnish a transitional space amidst the exterior and interior of a home, while simultaneously acquainting the overall decor and style.
Now that we have gained a fundamental comprehension of what a foyer encompasses, let us delve into some expert advice on how to create a foyer in an open living room. Contact Interior Designers in Scottsdale, AZ for tailored advice regarding the perfect foyer floor plan. This way, your foyer and living room will work in harmony.
1. Define the Space:
The first step in establishing a foyer within an open living room is to delineate the space. This can be achieved by utilizing different flooring options, lighting techniques, or strategic furniture arrangements to clearly differentiate the area as a separate zone from the rest of the living room.
2. Utilize Decorative Screens:
Another method to define the space and introduce an element of privacy is by incorporating decorative screens. These can contribute to a sense of separation and enhance visual interest in the foyer.
3. Integrate Storage Solutions:
A foyer is not solely an entrance; it can also serve as a functional storage area for items like coats, shoes, and bags. By incorporating storage solutions such as shelves or a console table with drawers, you can keep your entryway organized while adding style to the space.
4. Include Seating:
A foyer presents an excellent opportunity to incorporate a seating area, particularly if you have sufficient space. This can be in the form of a small bench or chairs, providing a spot to put on shoes or simply relax and remove your coat.
5. Optimize Lighting:
Adequate lighting is crucial for any space, including your open foyer. In an open living room, pendant lights or wall sconces can be utilized to delineate the space and create a pleasant ambiance.
6. Enhance with Decorative Elements:
Remember to infuse your foyer with personal touches through decorative elements such as a statement mirror, artwork, or a rug. These additions can harmonize with the overall design of your living room, making the entrance more inviting.
Always keep in mind that creating a front door entry/living room combo involves defining the space, ensuring functionality, and infusing your home with personality. With these tips, you can easily transform your open living room into a welcoming and stylish entryway that sets the tone for your entire house. So, let your creativity soar when designing your foyer.
Above all, don’t be afraid to experiment and enjoy the process. After all, your home is a reflection of your personality and style, so let that shine through in your design as the entryway front door opens into the living room. With careful planning and thoughtful choices, you can create a stunning entrance in your open living room that will leave a lasting impression on anyone who crosses the threshold.

A chandelier transcends its role as a mere lighting fixture, ascending to the status of an exquisite centerpiece that can enhance the overall ambiance of a room. In contemporary living rooms, chandeliers have broken free from their traditional confines in formal dining areas and grand entryways. They have evolved into versatile design elements that infuse personality and style into any space.
Chandeliers come in a myriad of shapes, sizes, and styles, making them an ideal choice for any living room. From classic crystal chandeliers to modern geometric designs, there is an option to suit every taste and interior design aesthetic. With this in mind, here are some contemporary and modern living room chandelier ideas.
One popular trend is the incorporation of mixed materials for a living room chandelier. By combining different elements such as metal, glass, and wood, a captivating and visually compelling look is achieved, infusing depth into the room. This blend of materials also offers greater flexibility in terms of color schemes. For instance, a chandelier with a metal frame and glass shades can add a touch of industrial chic, while a wooden fixture with fabric shades imparts a warm and inviting ambiance.
Alongside the use of mixed materials, geometric shapes have gained popularity with a modern chandelier for a living room. These fixtures often showcase clean lines, bold angles, and captivating patterns, imbuing the space with a hint of modernity and sophistication. Additionally, they can serve as statement pieces, drawing the gaze upward and creating visual interest in an otherwise minimalistic room.
While traditional crystal chandeliers still find their place in modern living rooms, they have undergone a contemporary makeover. Instead of ornate designs, modern crystal chandeliers feature sleek and streamlined silhouettes, focusing on simplicity and elegance. This makes them a fantastic option for individuals looking to incorporate a touch of sophistication into their living room without overpowering the space.
Another noteworthy trend in chandelier lighting for the living room is the incorporation of LED lights. These energy-efficient bulbs not only lower electricity costs but also provide a wide array of colors and brightness levels, allowing for the creation of the ideal ambiance for any occasion. With LED technology, chandeliers are no longer confined to traditional warm yellow light; you have the option to select from cool whites, vibrant hues, or even consider remote-controlled alternatives for added convenience.

Common Mistakes to Avoid with Chandeliers
When choosing a chandelier for your modern living room, it is imperative to avoid common mistakes. Firstly, carefully assess the size of the space and opt for a chandelier that is proportionate to the room. A small fixture may appear insignificant in a large living room, while an oversized one can overpower a smaller space.
Another error to avoid is choosing a chandelier without taking into account the overall style and aesthetic of your living room. While it is crucial to make a statement, the chandelier should also complement the existing decor instead of conflicting with it.
Lastly, do not overlook functionality. Many modern chandeliers offer dimmable options or adjustable heights, enhancing their versatility and practicality for everyday use. When selecting a chandelier for your living room, it is imperative to take these features into consideration. Why not get a chandelier for your living room this year?

Our Camelback Country Estates clients left California to enjoy Scottsdale living year-round. This Scottsdale interior design project was filled with transitional pieces that helped them comfortably evolve their traditional style into a completely livable, more modern vibe that is perfect for their young family. Keep reading for a look inside!
An Open Entry Space
Because this project backs up to Camelback Mountain, we wanted to bring the beautiful views indoors by incorporating large glass doors, windows, and mirrors throughout the home. In the entryway, the front door originally had an ornate metal design, so we opted to remove that detail for an added modern and open feel.
Further accentuating the openness of the space, we hung a large, geometric chandelier from the interior’s high ceilings for added impact. Just below the chandelier, we styled a rug and dining room table as the centerpiece, as opposed to a typical entry table, to fill in the remainder of this large room.
A Dining Room that’s Stylish for the Parents + Functional for the Kids
We believe you can have beautiful, chic spaces without it being all too precious to live with comfortably. For this family’s project, we designed a dining room that could also function as a kid’s craft space. To balance beauty and functionality, we styled stunning cabinets to home all art supplies, and also added leather chairs to ensure easy cleanup. As a backdrop for this space, we added a textured grasscloth wallpaper.
The Family Room That Serves the Family
This spacious family room gave our design team plenty of room to be creative. To maximize the large space, we decided to split the room into two: a sofa and a seating area. In the sofa area, we added a custom-sofa proportionate to the size of the space. To best separate these two sections of the family room, we hung two chandeliers from the wooden ceiling.
For family movie night entertainment, we hung a Samsung Frame TV that doubles as a piece of art when not in use. Because this TV was long, we wanted to maximize space underneath, while still being cost effective, so we opted to style two sideboards side by side as opposed to adding a custom piece.
While most of our clients don’t identify as risk-takers when it comes to design, they don’t want the same-old-same-old look either. They value unique, contemporary style with lots of personality and character; but they also want their homes to feel light, airy, inviting, and comfortable. We aimed to do just that in this family room by re-tiling the fireplace with a beautiful cement tile and quartz slab. We love how these details helped our clients step out of their comfort zones in an approachable way!
We Didn’t Forget to Show the Hallway Some Design Attention
To maximize space in the long hallway off the living room, we opted to put two consoles side by side to give the look of a larger, custom piece. On top of the console tables, we flanked the statement artwork with a cement lamp, vases, and other table accessories.
Boucle Bed + Grasscloth Wallpaper = Guest Bedroom Full of Texture!
This home’s guest bedroom is texture galore! For comfort and warmth, we started by adding a beautiful, sage green grasscloth wallpaper. Contrasting this pop of color, we styled a boucle-textured bed with stunning leather detail straps. Flanking this piece, we added two cane nightstands with brass footing and large lamps to fit the scale of the bed.
A Feminine Office Space
Our team opted to convert a small room right outside the primary bedroom into an office space for our client. We wanted to make this room feel feminine, so we added a beautiful embossed textured wallpaper and a blush-colored rug to match. For an added pop of color, we incorporated gold bookshelves with plenty of room for storing office supplies!
