PROJECT OVERVIEW

Designed as a refined second home in Scottsdale, Oasis Retreat is a 4,408-square-foot residence reimagined for modern family living and effortless entertaining. The homeowners wanted a space that felt warm, refined, and highly functional while remaining pet-friendly. Natural light shapes the experience throughout, with eastern morning light brightening the front rooms, southern exposure illuminating the main living areas, and west-facing spaces capturing desert sunsets and mountain views.

We softened the existing architecture with layered textures, warm finishes, and materials selected for both timeless appeal and everyday durability. Enhancements to the built-in bar and fireplace areas introduced custom detailing that enhances form and function while resolving construction constraints behind the scenes. The result is a welcoming yet sophisticated retreat that reflects the ease of desert living. Lauren Lerner led this project alongside her team at Living with Lolo, the luxury interior designer Scottsdale AZ homeowners trust for full-service design-build work. Named Phoenix Magazine Best Interior Design three consecutive years (2024, 2025, and 2026) and featured in Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, and Luxe Interiors + Design, Living with Lolo serves clients across Scottsdale, Silverleaf, DC Ranch, Paradise Valley, and Arcadia.

Construction was led by our in-house general contracting team, ensuring precise coordination between trades and design intent.

DESIGN GOALS

During our design process we established that our design goals for this project focused on shaping a lasting vision for this Scottsdale second home, one that feels elevated and cohesive today while remaining adaptable as the homeowners’ lifestyle and preferences evolve. Every decision was grounded in creating a warm, welcoming retreat that supports daily family life yet feels effortless and confident when entertaining.

Refined Yet Livable: Transform the home into a refined retreat that balances sophistication with comfort, ensuring it functions beautifully for both everyday living and hosting.

Cohesive Flow Throughout: Align the main living areas with the same level of intention and detail found in the private bedrooms, improving functionality and creating a cohesive experience from space to space.

Durable, Pet-Friendly Materials: Specify performance-driven finishes and furnishings that support real life while maintaining a luxury aesthetic.

Celebrate Natural Light and Setting: Maximize eastern morning light, southern exposure, and west-facing sunset views to shape the mood and rhythm of each space throughout the day.

Thoughtful Custom Moments: Introduce tailored design features, particularly in the built-in bar and fireplace areas, that add personality and discovery without overwhelming the home.

Effortless Execution: Resolve technical and construction challenges behind the scenes so the final result feels intentional, personal, and never over-designed.

This approach reflects our commitment to creating homes that feel timeless, highly functional, and deeply connected to the Scottsdale desert lifestyle.

DESIGN CHALLENGES

The primary focus was improving flow and functionality while maintaining a cohesive design vision throughout the home. Removing the wall between the entry and lounge opened the main living area, introduced additional natural light, and created space for a custom bar tailored for effortless entertaining.

Phased Bedroom Completion: Prioritize and fully complete all bedrooms first so the homeowners could comfortably enjoy the home during the winter season. Execute this initial phase within five weeks without compromising quality or overall design cohesion.

Refined Yet Livable Design: Deliver a home that feels warm, refined, and highly functional while remaining pet-friendly and comfortable for extended stays.

Cohesive Vision Across Spaces: Ensure shared living areas carry the same level of intention and sophistication as the private rooms, creating a seamless experience throughout.

Creative Agility: Leverage the clients’ full creative trust in Living with Lolo to make confident, efficient decisions that kept momentum strong.

Strategic Project Management: Utilize our operations and project management team to accelerate timelines, coordinate trades, and thoughtfully sequence work, maximizing both efficiency and the homeowners’ ability to enjoy the space as quickly as possible.

This approach allowed the home to evolve quickly and intentionally, balancing structural improvements, design integrity, and a highly strategic execution timeline in line with other projects in our portfolio.

Before After

This reimagined living space blends rich textures with a refined, modern palette. A sculptural wood console styled with curated objects and flanked by tactile boucle poufs adds warmth and flexibility. In the background, a custom bar with brass-accented shelving, a dramatic tiled fireplace wall, and a sleek wine display create layered architectural interest, balancing soft upholstery with darker finishes for a space that feels both elevated and inviting.
